Itinerary #7 – Mozambique camping details and distances

Due to the violence and safety concerns in Northern Mozambique, we opted to rather enter Mozambique via Malawi at the Mwanza border, and then travelled straight east to the coast, following the beach south to just before Maputo. We then turned west again to enter South Africa via the Komatipoort border.

Top recommendations:

· There are only a couple of camping sites in Mozambique that are directly on the beach, and not hidden behind a lodge or other buildings (that’s obviously if one isn’t into wild camping). Of these, our favorite site was Morrungulo Beach Resort, followed closely by Goody Villas in Inhassora.

Top tip / advisable changes to our itinerary:

· Follow the directions on the DriveMoz group closely if you want to use the RingRoad from the north to avoid Maputo on the way back to Komatipoort…the last 4km of the road is still under construction, and is quite hairy especially if it had rained a lot J
